About Me

My photo

Due to childhood illness, Laura Hudson has been completely bald since she was nine years old. Laura's hair loss is due to Alopecia Universalis, an auto-immune disorder for which there is no cure.

Laura says, "I would have given anything to have someone tell me they understood what I was going through, that it was OK to be different, that if I just hung in there and was strong I would be victorious. It would have made all the difference in the world. I could have been spared so many doubts, questions and fears. Since I didn't have that person, I want to be that person."

Laura Hudson is a motivational speaker and the Marketing Director for Aviv Moon Productions.

What the *BEEP - VEEP!!!

So I see a post on Facebook by my good friend, Georgia Van Cuylenburg that the show VEEP has dissed our peeps!  Really Veep?  Here is her post:

This week on VEEP Julia Louis Dreyfus' character (the Vice President of the US) said "The kids had alopecia and the mothers were on crack. It was a freakshow!" - this makes me sad! Words can hurt no matter how funny you think they might be (coming from an alopecian comedian!)

Freakshow?  Kids with an incurable auto-immune disease compared to "mothers on crack?"  Wow...

After years of being teased and being laughed at and made to feel like a freak, it comes to this.  After being suicidal as a teenager because I believe I was a freak, it comes to this.  After counseling young children with Alopecia that they are "beautiful just as they are," it comes to this.

Perhaps the writers of VEEP are the ones on crack.   America - this is why Alopecia Research gets no funding or attention.  This is why the suicide rate is so high.

Forget the Zombie Apocalypse - there's 4.7 Million freaks among us!

CHALLENGE:  Go to Twitter, Facebook, Google+, YouTube, and the mountaintops if necessary and shout our battle cry - "WHAT THE BEEP - VEEP?"  Use the hashtag #veep and #whatthebeepveep to spread the word.

We have a new bully in town in HBO - you've picked a fight with some little freaks who have some big freaks on their side.
